Love Languages Test
Discover your primary love language with this 15-question forced-choice test based on Gary Chapman's framework.
Each of us gives and receives love a little differently. Some people light up when they hear words of encouragement; others only feel truly cared for when someone shows up and helps. The 5 Love Languages framework, developed by Gary Chapman, names these patterns so couples, families and friends can communicate care in a way the other person can actually feel.
Answer the 15 forced-choice questions below honestly — pick the option that resonates more with you, even when both feel meaningful.
What are the 5 Love Languages?
Dr. Gary Chapman, a marriage counselor, noticed that most relationship breakdowns weren't caused by a lack of love — they were caused by a mismatch in how love was expressed. He distilled what he saw into five primary languages, and the framework has since helped millions of people communicate care more effectively.
Words of Affirmation
Verbal affection — sincere praise, encouragement, words of love. People with this language are most filled by hearing 'I'm proud of you,' 'thank you,' or 'I love you.' Sharp criticism wounds them more than most.
Quality Time
Undivided attention. Not just being in the same room — being truly present, with phones away and no distractions. Cancelled plans and divided focus hit hardest for this group.
Receiving Gifts
Visible symbols of love. The size of the gift doesn't matter — what counts is the thoughtfulness behind it. A handpicked little token shows the person was on your mind.
Acts of Service
Actions over words. Help with chores, fixing something that's been broken, picking up the kids without being asked — these say 'I love you' more clearly than any sentence.
Physical Touch
Physical contact — hugs, hand-holding, a hand on the shoulder, a kiss on the forehead. Withholding touch feels like withholding love itself.
Why take this test?
Most people have one dominant language and a strong secondary one. Once you know yours, you can ask for what you actually need instead of expecting people to guess — and you can love the people around you in their language, not just yours.
After the test you'll see your full breakdown across all five and a recommended deep-dive on your primary language.
