The sin of mixture

This false teaching is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough! Galatians 5:9
Introduction:
- Mixture is subtle. No one trades God all at once; you keep mixing.
- In Galatia, the mixture was grace with the law. A little is enough to contaminate everything (Gal 5:9).
- Mixture is not addition. Mixture is contamination.
1. The mixture. God's people mixed in and lost their way (Ps 106:35).
- Israel: "they mingled among the pagans and adopted their evil customs. They worshiped their idols, which led to their downfall" (Ps 106:35-36).
- Solomon made alliances by marrying women from the nations, and "they did turn his heart away from the Lord" (1 Kings 11:3).
- Balaam taught the strategy of mixture: he "showed Balak how to trip up the people of Israel" (Rev 2:14).
2. The strategy of mixture. The enemy does not show up as an enemy (2 Cor 11:14).
- "Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light" (2 Cor 11:14). The lie comes mixed with truth.
- A little yeast: tolerated sin "is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough" (1 Cor 5:6).
- "How can light live with darkness?" (2 Cor 6:14).
3. There is death in the pot. Mixture deceives, but God has the remedy (2 Kings 4:41).
- One of the young men put wild gourds in the pot "without realizing they were poisonous" (2 Kings 4:39).
- When they tasted it, they cried out: "Man of God, there's poison in this stew!" (2 Kings 4:40).
- Elisha threw flour into the pot, "and then it did not harm them" (2 Kings 4:41). Mixture does not fix itself; it has to be dealt with.
Conclusion:
So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free (...). Galatians 5:1
- "Get rid of the old 'yeast' (...). Then you will be like a fresh batch of dough made without yeast" (1 Cor 5:7).
- Christ set you free. Do not go back to the mixture.
- What is mixed into your pot today?
